Field Day:
We had such a fabulous time outside with our Field Day events! The kids rotated through many stations and had such great fun! We hope you enjoyed the pictures we shared! Thanks for coming and please thank Mrs. Renbarger for organizing this remarkable event!

Books On the Beach:
Our gym looked AMAZING for the “Books on the Beach” family engagement night for our incoming kindergarten students and 4-year-olds! We gave beach bags full of books and goodies for summer to all our 4-year-olds, had fantastic stations, enjoyed free pizza, chips, cookies and drinks, and gave away prizes! Thank you preschool staff, Cindy Schuler, and everyone else involved! Thank you, parents, for bringing your kiddos!

Memorial Day:
Our preschool, daycare and before and after school programs are only closed six days during the entire year and Memorial Day is one of those days. We only close on Memorial Day, Labor Day, the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. We will be closed Monday, May 28th and will see everyone back Tuesday, May 29th!

Perfect Attendance:
Mrs. Glassburn will be giving the students with second semester perfect attendance dilly bars donated by Dairy Queen Thursday, May 31st at 1:30. Thank you, DQ!

Red Gold Run:
I know it seems early to be thinking about the October “Run to Crush Hunger” that Red Gold puts on, but they gave our kids a great deal to sign up now! The classroom with the most kids who sign up before May 30th will earn a pizza party and the teacher will earn a $25 gift card! I will be there to walk with the kids, so all you have to do is drop them off! Sign up now, and we will help CRUSH HUNGER this fall!

Summer School Update:
Summer School will be half days from 8-12 Monday through Thursday (not Fridays) for three weeks (June 11 - June 28th.) Bus transportation is available. If you signed your children up, please try to have them there all 12 days! We will need bus information if you have not filled that form out!

Awards/Celebration Day:
With the age of our young children, we find it best to give most of the awards out in the classrooms because we have so many to give out! We have made our program more of a CELEBRATION of the year with a few awards and lots of fun! You won’t want to miss it! We will meet in the gym from noon to 1:00 Wednesday, May 30th. We made it earlier so you could then go to your classrooms to see more awards handed out after the program if your teacher is giving them out that afternoon. This is the day we honor our second grade students, hand out awards, celebrate with games, and enjoy our famous three end-of-the-year videos! Please join us!

Summer Camp:
Be sure to sign up for our Summer Camps! This is for kindergarten through age 13 students! Breakfast, lunch and snacks are free, and our children visit the pool each and every day (weather permitting)! We will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for all your summer needs! Our “littles” (ages 16 months to age 4) will be able to stay all of June and July as well! Call us for more information! (765-552-7381)

Attention Parents of Next Year’s 4-Year-Old Preschool Children:
Please go to www.onmywayprek.org and sign up! It will only take 2-3 minutes and you will know if you qualify! It doesn’t hurt to try! We are going to have full day four-year-old classrooms and half day morning classrooms next year! The afternoons for full day classrooms will include free lunch, rest time, more learning activities, free snacks and lots of fun. Our children may attend before and after school as well as we are open 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please call if you have questions about the preschool program for next year!

Online Lunch Accounts:
ALL lunch accounts must be paid in full before the end of the school year. You may view your lunch accounts and pay online at https://family.titank12.com.

Online Daycare/Preschool Accounts:
Please make payment plans for any outstanding balances for daycare and preschool. Payments may be paid online at https://parentportal.runsandbox.com/.

Meeting New Teachers - Please Notice the Change:
We are excited to be meeting our new superintendent, Dr. Smitherman, very soon! We are going to hold off on making our final class lists until sometime during the summer. We would like to discuss our programs and strategies with her so that she can have input in our decisions for what is best for all children next year. We will let you know when our class lists are ready to share. We are so sorry for the delay, but we feel it is best as we move forward. We are looking forward to great things! Thank you for understanding!

My Email List:
I really have a hard time taking parents off my weekly email list, but I will have to soon. I will take the proud parents of our “new third graders” off, so give me a little time to clear out as many of you as I can and then send me an email telling me to delete you from the list if I have not done so! We wish our third grade parents and our big third graders the very best!

Dr. Daughtry:
We would like to thank Dr. Daughtry and his family for everything they have done for Elwood schools the past three years. He has allowed us the chance to grow this wonderful Early Learning Center, Summer program, Before and After Care program and so much more. He has helped with 1:1 technology, STEM and project-based learning as well. We wish Chris, Sarah and their four lovely daughters the very best as they move to Missouri and new beginnings! Good luck, Chris! We will miss you!

Welcome, Dr. Smitherman:
We say goodbye and then hello! We would like to welcome Dr. Casey Smitherman to Elwood schools as our new superintendent! She comes from Brown Elementary in Brownsburg and has had many experiences with all ages of students. Casey believes in building relationships and has walked the streets of Elwood and visited businesses. She will help us work on our curriculum and wants to help attract and retain teachers. Like with Chris, let’s get behind Casey and move this district forward! Welcome, Casey!

May:
Memorial Day - No School - No Daycare - 28th
Awards/Celebration Day (beginning at noon) - 30th
Last Student Day - 31st
Last Teacher Day - 1st

Background Checks:

We are changing our system to have more safety for our children. The program is called Safe Visitors Solutions. We will require parents who plan to visit for 8 hours or less to scan your driver’s license for a security check. We are encouraging parents to obtain the “expanded background check” for $16.95 which will last for five years and you may volunteer and visit more than 8 hours! Go here to sign up: https://secure.safevisitorsolutions.com/Safe/Volunteer/000988/VOLUNTEER

Update on Immunizations:
Every child (K-12) must have 2 Varicella (chickenpox vaccines) by the beginning of next school year. Please check with your family doctors or Mrs. Bock if you are not sure about your child’s immunizations. You may also want to check on Hepatitis A for your little ones at home.

Internet Essentials:
Internet - Some of you were asking about the Internet Essentials program that allows parents of children on the free or reduced lunch plan to qualify for this internet program for $9.95 a month. You may also take advantage of buying a low-cost computer and receive Internet training at no additional charge. The number to call is 1-855-846-8376.  Hope that helps!
